Progression of Colonic Ischemia - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This medical exhibit features four anterior cut-away views of the abdomen revealing the progression of the colon injury and treatments. The first image show s the treatment of initial injury with the mesenteric artery tears and associated hemorrhage. The next image shows ischemia of the distal transverse and left upper colon in the regions supplied by the ligated mesenteric arteries. The next image shows ischemic region of bowel that is removed and a colostomy. The last image shows that the colostomy is taken down and the transverse colon is attached to the distal segment to restore flow through the large intestine.
