Below Knee Amputation - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This stock medical exhibit depicts gangrene of the left lower leg and foot and the subsequent below the knee amputation procedure. The first step of the procedure shows an elliptical skin incision made below the knee exposing the tibial and fibular bones. Next a gigil saw is used to amputate the tibia. Then at a slightly higher level the amputation of the fibula is performed with a bone saw. Finally the muscle layers are re-approximated over the bones and closed with sutures.
