This medical illustration series depicts the Cloward anterior cervical discectomy (diskectomy) and spinal fusion surgery. May be used to demonstrate the procedure from any vertebral level from C2 to C7. Surgical steps: 1. The surgical incision made at the base of the neck; 2. Removing the herniated intervertebral disc material; 3. Using a Cloward drill to create a hole in the vertebral body end plates; and 4.
