Cholecystectomy with Injury to the Common Hepatic and Common Bile Ducts - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This exhibit depicts an iatrogenic (caused by the surgeon) injury to the common hepatic duct and common bile duct during an abdominal cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) procedure. It compares the injury with a correct, desired surgical outcome. Labeled structures include the right and left lobes of the liver, gallbladder, common hepatic duct, cystic duct, cystic artery and common bile duct. The final step of the exhibit pictures the cut and clipped common bile duct leaking bile into the peritoneum.
